The Department of Education encourages travel during the school holidays. If travel during the school term is necessary, and Application for Extended Leave will need to be completed, with parents/carers indicating the educational value of the travel, e.g. visiting significant sites, experiencing another culture, seeing how those in other cultures live etc.
Approved absences relating to travel will be marked as ‘leave’ on the roll and will contribute to your child’s total absences for the year. If this process is not completed, the absence will be recorded as ‘unjustified’. If your child will be having 6 or more days off school, please contact the office and complete an attached Application for “Extended Leave – Travel” form at least a week before the absence, as the Principal is required to complete and send home a certificate of approval before the student starts their leave. Copies are also available in the office.
In some circumstances, students may be eligible to enrol in distance education for travel periods over 50 school days.
Thank you for your support in this matter.
